Rocco (French Bulldog)
“A little tank with a velvet heart.”
Rocco was a brindle French bulldog who moved through life like a tiny foreman inspecting a job site. Samira adopted him in Queens, and he quickly became known in the building as the dog who expected greetings from everyone and accepted them with grave importance. He snored like heavy machinery, feared nothing except aluminum foil, and loved riding in the front basket of Samira's bike with his ears pinned back by the wind. At the coffee shop, the barista kept a biscuit ready before Samira reached the counter. Rocco considered this appropriate service. As he aged, his walks grew shorter, but his personality refused to downsize. He still paused at every stoop, still inspected every grocery bag, still made strangers smile. Samira says grief is strangely loud for such a small dog. That sounds exactly right.
