Juniper
“Small body, official business”
Juniper was a sable ferret with a resume nobody believed until they saw it. Marcy trained her to find dropped hearing aids, lost rings, missing medicine caps, and once a wedding band wedged inside a couch spring. Juniper wore a tiny orange vest for official work, though most emergencies began with someone shouting from another room that Grandpa had lost his keys again. She moved through the house like a little brown question mark, nose first, fearless and focused. Children learned to keep Lego pieces off the floor. Adults learned that intelligence can fit inside something that sleeps in a hammock and steals blueberries. Juniper's vest now hangs on a hook beside the flashlight and tweezers. Marcy says the house still feels like someone is searching carefully for what matters.
