1643-01-04✦1727-03-31
"He named the forces holding the heavens in their ancient paths."
Isaac Newton's Principia Mathematica, published in 1687, laid the foundation for classical mechanics and transformed humanity's understanding of the physical world. His laws of motion and universal gravitation unified terrestrial and celestial physics into a single coherent framework. He independently developed calculus, conducted pioneering work on the nature of light and color, and served as President of the Royal Society. Standing on the shoulders of giants, he became the giant on whose shoulders others stood.
